Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel, Mexico

Where do I begin with this post! Greg and I recently went to Cozumel, Mexico for like a late honeymoon I guess. We never took a honeymoon after we got married because he was in school and we wanted to save money. So! Almost a year later we made the time and decided to plan a little trip. I started out by just going to a AAA travel agency and talking with them. The agent that I worked with was so awesome!! I told her that we wanted to go to the Caribbean, the week we were thinking, and our budget...which was $3,000-$4,000. Neither of us had traveled to the Caribbean so I figured a travel agent would give me some good insight. I got on tripadvisor and all of those sites too. When I'm planning a trip, I like to do a lot of research to make sure I get the most out of it for what I'm willing to spend.

So anyway, after talking with the AAA travel agent, it was clear that an all-inclusive was the way to go for us. I just wanted to get there and not have to worry about anything else. I really loved the resorts and beaches of St. Lucia...but when it came down to it...we could pretty much get the same thing more or less in Mexico for $1,000 less...so Mexico was the way we went!

Here are the things we wanted for our trip and all-inclusive resort:

  1. Beautiful private beach
  2. Nice room accommodations without being over-the-top nice
  3. Good food!!
  4. Unlimited drinks (We love our mimosas.)
  5. No children running around (So 18+ age requirement)

So we decided to go with the Secrets Aura Cozumel Resort and Spa in Cozumel. Overall, I think we were very pleased with our stay! We got a swim-up room so we had our own little pool outside our room that had a water slide down to the main pool area. Our room was nice and exactly like the pictures, except the bathroom was a little small and we had no freaking hot water in our shower. That was the biggest thing that we could complain about the whole time though. It wasn't like it was freezing, but it wasn't warm. I think they were having a problem with the water heater. I saw them working on it, so I think they were trying to fix it.

The food was great!!! Nothing like crazy to die for but definitely very good. There were 5 restaurants there and we ate at all of them. We were there over 4th of July and on the holiday they had a little beach party for everyone and grilled these killer ribs. Like I'm not kidding they were so good!! So me being me on vacation...I kept going back for more...until I was about to pop from fullness...then a couple hours later I got a belly ache and threw up from being so full dude. That's kind of gross but I had to put it in here because it's funny to me now. So anyway, that sucked. (Greg ate the ribs too and he was fine, so I know it wasn't the ribs...it was me eating too much.) But honestly, those ribs were so good it was worth it!!

The pools were clean and very nice. The beach was my favorite. I will never look at a Florida or California beach the same again. Don't get me wrong, I am no beach snob so anytime I'm at a beach, I'm happy....but the caribbean water was soooo turquoise, you'll be able to see in the pics. It was AMAZING. I loved it. Literally all we did everyday was lay around at the pool or beach and drink and eat...which was exactly what we wanted out of the trip...so it was great. We also went snorkeling right at our beach and saw some fish so that was fun!

So overall, if you are looking to go to the Caribbean and don't want to spend a ton, but still want to get some nice perks, I would recommend staying at this Secrets.

The pictures below are just a summary of what we took. I'll list some outfits details but if you want to know more then just comment and I'll do my best. Let me know what you think!!

Pink one-piece: Missguided, found here. Colorblock coverup is from target and I couldn't find it on their site anymore. :(
