The Red Skirt

The Red Skirt

In my opinion, every girl needs a go-to red skirt. This one is mine. A popular bell silhouette for me. Why do I like this ascetic so much?

  1. It's high waisted and shows off my midriff.....making me look skinny.
  2. It hides my hips....which is my least favorite part of my body.
  3. It's long enough to be appropriate for any sort of event....meaning I can wear it to work, or a wedding, or a bar.
  4. It has pockets....end of story.

This skirt is Express. I also bought it in blue because I love it that much, but another store that does the bell skirt really well is chicwish. I highly recommend going to their site and you will definitely find one that you'll like.

So now you now why I love this style skirt. It pairs well with pretty much anything. Something that I really like is wearing pink and red together. I just think it pops well. So that's how I put this look together. I started with the skirt....then grabbed this J.Crew pink striped knit, then said what the hell, and threw on the polka-dot socks and booties. I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I am a major fan of mixing prints!!!! Which is probably why I love J.Crew so much. But I love mixing stripes with solids with dots or fair aisle or gingham or plaid or whatever I feel like!

Side note....I'm going to win an award for this post using the word "or" more than any other. Sorry about that.

Now back to the clothes. I just think there's something really sweet, like a cupcake sweet, about this look. I had to do the red lips. And I threw on this J.Crew Factory statement necklace to add a cooler tone to the mix. My booties are Sole Society, a brand I discovered at Nordstrom last fall, and kind of fell in love with. They have a bunch of great boots for pretty reasonable prices! And my booties have held up very well over the last year. I'm wearing my JORD wood watch for this look as well. The blue face pops perfectly. I love this watch!!!

I was going to tell you more about my lip stain and how I swear by it, but then I had an idea to showcase all of my lip stains in a separate post.....so that's what I'll do and you guys will just have to wait for that one. :)

Also, in a couple of the photos I'm wearing an Express polka-dot button-down around my waist. Tying the button-down around the waist is very trendy right now and I am a fan! It's nice because you can wear the shirt if you get cold, like I always do, and it adds another element to your look. I'm not a fan of getting a giant men's flannel shirt and tying it around your waist....like so big it almost drags the ground...I don't know if you guys have seen girls wearing those....I don't know that's just a bit much for me at that point and it just starts to look sloppy. There's a line.....

Anyway, this was a fun look to shoot with Erika Aileen Photography. Let me know what you guys think!
