Mustard Fall Frock

Mustard Fall Frock

Greg and I were walking out of Greyhouse (a local campus coffee shop) one Saturday morning and we strolled right by this new boutique called civvies. (Facebook here) They had a cute window display and there are literally zero other stores on campus so we had to pop in. They had some really cute pieces in the store, and friendly staff, so although I didn't buy anything that first trip...civvies was now on my radar.

I went back a second time and was able to chat with one of the owners, Angie. She was very personable and told me a little bit of the backstory of how they came to be in West Lafayette. (They have another store in Culver, IN) We continued to talk and I let her know that I was a style blogger. She let me put some of my business cards by the register and then I asked her about collaborating!

Here's the thing, I love all the big named stores just as much as the next girl, but I also really love local boutique shopping. I think it's a much more personal shopping experience in general, and civvies was no exception. I wanted to partner with them for a couple reasons:

  1. They are a new local store!
  2. They have some great on trend pieces.
  3. As soon as you walk in the door, it just smells really good inside. :)

I think I've said this before, if people are just nice to you and genuinely try to help you, that goes a long way in my book. Throughout this collab I've worked with Angie and she has been so fun and helpful. I am so happy to have the chance to promote civvies and hopefully get the word out about them to all my local folks!

I will be totally honest, when Angie first suggested I try this dress....I think I responded with, "That's not really my style, but I'll try it." lol And so I did, and once I put it on, I really came around to it. It's so comfy!!! You guys know I'm big on comfort. Also, it's cute and perfect for fall. It would also make a great layering piece if you wanted to throw on a little faux leather jacket of some sort. One of great things about clothes...is that even if you're someone like me who thinks they know their style pretty well....you can still try something on and unexpectedly fall for it. Sometimes you just have to give things a chance!

These boots are sick. I love them. Seriously. They're freaking great. I don't know what else to say about them, but they'll go with everything, they also are comfy and they're the shit. I only wore the scarf for a photo or two because while I liked it on its own, I wasn't feeling the lack of structure of the whole look with it. The scarf is so soft though!

Anyway, this is one of two looks I shot for them with Erika Aileen Photography. Erika did this really cool double exposure thing on a couple of the pictures and it's pretty dope!! One of my favorite things about working with her is that she's always trying new things and that motivates me to try new things styling/modeling too! Anyway, Let me know what you guys think and I urge you to go check civvies out on campus!!!
